I Like to Ride My Bicycle

I like to ride it where I like...

Today I got out and got some exercise. It's the start of part two of creating a better me.

The first part was working on the ol' spiritual health. A few weeks ago I started a daily devotion (still going, just not blogging about it as much). And a few days ago, I decided to work on my physical health bit of the string. I've noticed when these two parts of me are going strong, the third generally falls into place out of fear of being picked on by the other two.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I went to the storage building today to grab a few things... one of them being my Mongoose Mountain bike that I bought a couple years ago to ride around on campus from class to class. I put my bike rack on the car, loaded up the bike, and headed back to the house.

Back at the ranch, I cleaned the bike up a bit, put air in the tires, checked the brakes, checked the gears and the shifters and decided to ride around the block. It felt really good.

Flashback:
I remember riding my bike all over the place when I was growing up. I got my first bike at age 6 for my birthday. I remember that training wheels always seemed to mess me up, I tried to lean with the turns and the stupid things would pick my back tire off the ground and then I'd crash. I remember after getting the training wheels off that I could stay up, but wasn't really good at stopping. Thank goodness there were plenty of trees in my front yard to help me out. I've only owned two bikes in my life... the current one being my second. I took really good care of that first one. I rode it right up until I was 16 and could drive a car (plus a little even then).

If you enjoy riding your bike, then by all means do it - but if you're trying to put on weight, then you're gonna have to work twice as hard at it, if you're doing regular cardio. You might want to get on a weight plan too.

Holy crap, Tom... that was a novel!

Thanks for the advice! You're right... I had a conversation w/ Mom the other day, she mentioned that Dad wasn't a big-framed man, either, and I know I take mostly after him.

Mostly, I woke up one day and realized I wasn't eating enough. I would go through the day and sometimes only eat once a day (with maybe a snack at some point). So this is mostly my solution for that... but I also want to work on some good eating habbits for general health reasons. I'm going to use some of my federal return on some weights (a small set of hand weights will do) to work on the upper body.

The people telling Scotty he might have to work harder weren't telling him to go on eating binges. They were telling him that if he was doing a lot of cardio, he might have to start a weight program too. If he wants to put more muscle on his frame, bike-riding will only do so much of that - hence the suggestion of a weight program.
