Vague

Okay, I'm starting to get comments about the last couple of posts from people sounding worried and that sort of thing.

I'm okay.

The "Overwhelmed" post was just that I've got a lot of stuff on my plate to deal with, and at that moment I was having a tough time figuring where to start. The "Life" post was a very vague notion, I was trying to make a point without being "whiny". So here goes.

The purpose behind the Life post in particular was just me kind of looking at other people's lives and then looking at my own. Want a list? Here's a list...

- Not finished with school.
- Don't have a girlfriend, thusly no wife or kids.
- Don't have a steady job.
- Want to do things that I can't afford.

I was just going through a down couple of days, it is something that everyone does every once in a while, so it's not a big deal... especially since I've not had those kinds of days for a long time now. I appreciate people's concern... a lot, in fact... but I promise I'm okay (or at least I will be). God is challenging me... and I'll face this challenge and emerge stronger for it.

I love life and living! I love food and music! I love my friends and family, and I'm not planning on giving any of that up before my time comes.

There.

Thanks for giving a little more info. Sorry you're having a down couple of days. From what I regularly read on your blog, you've got a lot to be thankful for, even though it's hard to see that stuff when you're down. Hope it all turns around in your head soon. And good luck with the stuff you want to accomplish.

Also...

I've been out of school, had a job I loved, married, and had enough money to do the stuff I want before - and while all of those things were great - they were all undone in a matter of years. It sucked having to start over - but it gave me a good chance to re-evaluate my life and what I found important. Which lead me to do a lot of things different - like not settling in the love department. Not financing my lifestyle through stupidity. And taking steps to create an eventual career that I can be happy with in the long run.

A lot of folks hang all their happieness on a person, or a job, or money. You can tell those people because they're generall miserble or consumed in drama - then they meet somebody, or get a job, or some money and then they can't shut up about how great life is. But that shit don't last.

You're a kind, generous, talented person, Scotty. Capitolizing on that stuff will make you a lot happier in the long run than worrying about the stuff you see in other people's lives that you assume makes them happy. I'm not saying that other stuff isn't great or something to hope for - but take your time and build a life slow and easy, focusing on being the best person and friend you can be and I think the other stuff will fall into place.

That's how I wish I'd done it.

You're a hell of a guy Scotty, and I think you're doing a lot of stuff just right from what I read.

Also, I'm a douchebag and talk too much, so don't listen to me.

some times i kinda get stuck looking at life in "glass if half empty" sort of way. It bums me out too. I find that if I try to learn to be contented with what i have and where i am it gets a lot better. Perspective is everything!!!

Think about where your quality of life would rank on a global scale(yes, out of all the people in the world). Now be thankful!

Patrick - Thanks man. You always suprise me. (that's a good thing)

Geron - Good point.

Also, I think another feeling was that I kinda felt like everyone is experiencing life, but sometimes I feel like I'm just watching it pass by. Make sense?

Scottie,

You and I have been best friends for many years now and I have to tell you that I think you are one of the most amazing people I know. Your kindness and warmth has always been a light in my life and in the lives of many others. I have watched you change and grow over the past few years and it's wonderful to see the man of God that you are becoming.

I don't feel like I have words of wisdom that I would love to give to you. Basing my happiness on people, things or even church has never been successful for me. But we all do that at some point, sometimes without even realizing it. God has created you to have a very special life, but don't feel like you are sitting around waiting for it to begin. It began the day you were born. You are the perfect child of God today. I know all that can sound so cliche, but it's a difficult lesson to learn all the same. It's been difficult getting that truth into my hard noggin and I still work on that everyday.

I love you very much, my friend.

Scott, Scott, Scott--I agree with Patrick, you've got a lot to be thankful for and being as awesome a person as you are--you've got LOTS more than MANY people who appear to have it all going well. (I hope this makes sense.) Point is, I hope you will be cheering up soon and not get down about not being married or being a daddy yet. You REALLY do have a lot of time. I know MANY people who didn't get married until their thirties(Gave them plenty of time to find the real 'RIGHT ONE', and they were able to have healthy children later in life, too. SO, look up. Be glad for all the wonderful relationships you have now. YOu are obviously an awesome friend because you have SO MANY of them. Just wait. God has the perfect plan for your life that you cannot even imagine.

Patrick, Geron, Rose, Steph, and Lydia - Thank you.

Patrick - Amidst the jokes, quips, and sarcasm, you have an awesome heart, and have given me plenty of great advice over the years. (I know I'll regret saying this... it'll go to your head. ;))

Geron & Lydia - I've spent very little time with you two, but respect you guys greatly. Thank you for all your kind words over the past couple years. And I'm grateful we found each other's blogs! :)

Rose - I think I'll stick to Chocolate Chip Cookie dough.

Steph - you are an amazing friend who has believed in ms a LOT over the years, even (and especially) when I didn't believe in myself.

I know this sounds very "Hallmark", especially considering the setting, but I have always believed this: One of these days, Scott Glascock is going to surprise everybody. I'm not sure how. Maybe he'll show up with a 6'3" blonde bomb-shell wife who rubs his... uh... feet... every night. Or maybe he'll disarm a terrorist in front of a Federal Building. Or, maybe he'll suddenly become this dark horse movie star. I don't know how it'll happen, but I do know you've got it in you. You're *not* pathetic. You just have relatively impotent goals. Set your sights a little higher. Hey... try a lot higher. And get some perspective, too. Go do some mission work among people who *really* got it bad. Or, have Steph take you into one of the conference rooms at her old job and just look out over Lex from that height. It's amazing what "getting up above it all" will do for you.

Then come back and get busy. There's something huge out there with your name on it. Find it. Don't settle for normal. And don't be typical. That's just what *they* want you to do. If you find that HUGE thing that you are meant for, your confidence will go through the roof. After that, your *other* big problem will vanish on its own.

Scottie, I agree with Mikey. You're a wonderful guy. Don't give up on that. One day it will pay off.
