Untimely Opportunities

Situation:
You have your life all set up for the next year to eighteen months, and then events take place to make you question all that. It makes you rethink what's best for you, friends, family, and career, etc.
Explanation:
I have been planning on going back to school this fall after returning from my summer at JWT and traveling abroad to celebrate Stephanie and Chris' wedding in London. Yesterday, I was given a possible job opportunity. The Barter Theatre in Virginia is looking for a Master Electrician. It would be an 8 month contract that would be well paying and include housing. The down side is that I wouldn't be going back to school this fall. This is a great opportunity for me to expand my horizons and further myself in my field and expand my resume by working at a theatre that's not JWT.
Question:
Any advice? If there's any clarification needed, I'd be happy to accommodate.

An 8 month contract sounds so awesome and stable. As much as we would miss you, Dustin and I both think you should go for it. How much closer does that put you to Erin? ;)

That sounds neat-o, Scott. Go for it! Are you closer to Erin 2? :)

Scott. Go.

Luck = Preparation + Opportunity.

You've been working, honing and tweaking your skills in this for a while now. Time to stretch beyond your comfort zone. College will be here when you get back. Life is not about preparing, it's about doing.

And, again, will this put you closer to Erin 2?

I don't know who this Erin2 is your talking about, but it will put me exactly the same distance. From Richmond to Buckhannon, WV is 5 1/2 hours... Abingdon, VA to Buckhannon, WV is 5 1/2 hours.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all of your advice and suggestions.

I feel so very lucky to have the kind of friends I have and trust.

Oh yeah, I know all about that. I've done contract work as well as salary work. Most theatre companys have you sign a contract when you get hired, it usually states your pay rate, what your duties are, etc. Also, most theatre companies as far as I'm aware hire you on a contract to contract basis - at the end of each contract you'd be evaluated, if they like your work, you could be offered another. I've not seen a "Non compete" other than 'employee agrees not to seek other employment for the period of the contract'. But really, in theatre you don't have time to take on other work anyway.

College isn't going anywhere, job opportunities are. What are you going to school for anyway? Take the practical experience while it's offered. You can always get classroom experience later. Hope I get to meet Erin at the wedding.
Love ya,
Rose

Rose - Thanks for the advice... that's pretty much the direction I'm heading in, now. Erin is still at Jenny Wiley and she has shows the day of the wedding, so meeting her is probably not going to happen. ;(
