Rock and (or) Roll

I had the day off Sunday, so I took a little trip into Lexington and arrived early enough that I was able to make it to church (St. Awesome's - ala Patch). They always do the coolest message series during the summer for some reason... I think the teaching and creative arts teams get together and say, "Let's see... Scott is going to be out of town starting at the end of April... THAT's when we shall do the coolest message series of the year!"

This summer is no exception.

Finding Faith in Rock n Roll is the name of the series, and the service was incredible! They started out with "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar... and it was awesome. The whole service just had an amazing energy about it. One of those days you just really love to be at church... it also marked the very first time I've actually sat in the congregation since the new building opened. I've either been out of town, or helping run the services. I loved every minute of it. It was such a rush and a definite needed resupply of energy.

In other news - the tour is going well... we've hit a few snags and... well, if you want the whole story, I'll tell you in person some time. The people I'm working with are terrific, though. Wade McGowan, Elizabeth Kenseck, and Jasmine Osborne... I've worked some with both Wade and Jasmine, but Elizabeth is new. They're all really cool and a lot of fun to be around.

lightning round

Since Friday -

Played 3 rounds of disc golf, did better each time. My arm is really sore.

Rehearsed for the promo tour each day. I have this really funny lip-sync and dance with puppets to a FOOTLOOSE medley.

Other spare time events - did laundry, played MechAssault 2 and StarWars Battlefront on Xbox.

Tried to call some people. Nobody calls back. (thanks)

JWT - the beginning

While I didn't actually start work on my first day, it was an interesting one. Here's the highlights:

- Arrived.
- Played a round of disc golf.
- Grabbed some grub at Dairy Cheer.
- Bought some essential groceries.
- Removed a huge tick from my chest.
- Went to bed at 10:00pm. (fell asleep watching Family Guy DVD)

Leaving on a jet plane...

... and by jet plane I mean my blue chevy cavalier.

Getting ready to shut my computer down to take it with me to P-burg and JWT. I don't usually have much access to the internet there so the posting will be fewer and farther between. I know that really tears you guys up. You'll have to be strong... for the kids.

Anyway, I'm outta here. My last day out there is July 14th, feel free to drop some emails or call to say hi! And if you're feelin' really good, come on out and see a show. [check out www.jwtheatre.com for schedules]

Keep the faith alive.

Pad See Ew

On the spur of the moment, I called up William to play some disc golf. After the round we ate at Pad Thai in Tates Creek Center. They have the best Crab Rangoon I have ever eaten... they're made fresh and warm, and cast a very huge crabby and cream cheese shadow over all other lesser crab rangoons at chinese buffets.

William got the wierdest fortune cookie ever. Too bad I can't remember what it said.

Return of Bengals Watch

The 2006 NFL Schedules are out. Preseason starts Sunday, August 13, and the regular season starts up on Sunday, September 10. With the way the Bengals played last season, I'm really stoked about 2006.

Patch Works Vol. 1

Hey gang, if any of you know Patrick Drury, visit his blog daily, or read his column, you should know that he's compiled his first year's worth of columns into a book, and it's available for purchase. Check it out.
"Fed up with those tired, predictable, feel-good pieces of crap that pass for inspirational reading these days? Patrick is too, and hes doing something about it mainly talking about life, love, sex, and spirituality with just enough cursing and beer references to make him appear cool and edgy. Give PatchWorks a read."

Celebration!!

I have a few things to point out... first before the craziness ensues... the OFFICIAL day I'm leaving for P-burg and good ole JWT is Thursday (start work on Friday).

Now - CONGRATULATIONS BEN & REBEKAH! (They got engaged this weekend!) I'm happy for them (even if Ben did tell me via comment section...)

On another note - I have my ticket to go to London!!!! WHOO HOO! Found the cheapest flights I've been able to snag, so there it is... I'm going to London!

This weekend at "St. Awesome's" (see post) was just that. Saturday night for me was a little rough, but I still got some compliments. Sunday, I totally made up for it, though. The whole technical team was amazing... it was what I might consider the "dream team". It was a great note to go out on... leaving for the summer and all.

It's an illness, really

I just want to say "Thank goodness I never tried drugs." I have what one might call, "an addictive personality". But not for everything, mind you. Only when I get really interested in something.

Enter Disc Golf.

Yesterday, in preparation for being gone for a few months and knowing I'll have VERY easy access to a disc golf course, I purchased a few more discs. After borrowing a couple from Ben (thanks man), it made me itch to buy a couple. So I did. I did this for a secondary reason - so that someone who wants to play with me doesn't need their own disc(s).

Here's what I bought:
- "Beast" (long-distance driver)
- "Leopard" (fairway driver)
- another "shark" (multipurpose)
- "Aviar Putt & Approach (putter)

Okay, now that the equipment is bought, the only thing that will really satiate my hunger is to play!

friday

Today was a pretty awesome day.

1) Ben and Rebekah came through town today. I had lunch with them, Steph, Chris and another Chris. It turned out to be a three-hour lunch. It was awesome. I borrowed two golf disc from Ben, a lond-distance drive (the T-Bird) and a putter (Rhyno).

2) Hung out with Steph and Chris the rest of the afternoon into the evening. Spent some good quality time with them. They're usually so busy when Chris is in town I don't usually get to spend such solid time with them, so today was doubly awesome.

3) Hung out with Dustin some tonight when I got home. Tried to use a telescope to look at the stars... then it got cloudy, so we turned into peeping toms... of course there were no open windows, so we just enjoyed the warm evening air.

Uncle Scott Needs You: Revisited

Okay, I've finally had the chance to look around at some music. Thanks to those of you (Patrick and Jeff) who actually suggested something. To the rest of you, you are dead to me. Here's what I picked so far:
Phantom Planet - Do The Panic
Phantom Planet - In The End
Josh Rouse - Sunshine (Come On Lady)
Killers - Mr. Brightside
Roper - 1985
Okay, here's a chance for you to all redeem yourselves. I'm 1/3 through my iTunes gift card. Suggest music. Go. Now.

growing up

"Sometimes growing up means making the tough decisions.

I'm a people pleaser by nature. I like harmony. I like calm waters. The thought of not being able to come to a decision where all parties are satisfied churns my stomach and twists it into knots. I'm talking lost sleep sort of bothered.

Very few times have I had to make a really difficult decision. The past few days have presented one to me, and I finally made it. It is one of those choices you make where you're not really going to feel a lot better about either option. I had to sit down and look at the situation, and figure it out using nothing but cold hard fact. I made the choice that will benefit me most.

Is that selfish? Yes. Was it the right choice? Yes. Was it easy? Not at all.

I know that sometimes I have to think about myself. I have to think about what the future has in store for me and make my life out of what I can. I'm not talking mogul take-overs and stepping on all the little people on the way up... just mapping out my life (as much as anyone can) and figure out how I can live a healthy, happy, comfortable, and fullfilled life.

Is there anything good that comes from being an adult?

what you missed

(or what you didn't care that you missed)

This weekend was a pretty good one.

Friday night played poker @ Steph's with her, Chris, Dustin, and Katie. Her mom makes a pretty mean hamburger.

Saturday morning I drove Stephanie and Chris to the Cinci airport (we left at 6:00am... what a great friend I am), they flew out to Las Vegas for a few days. (see previous post) Due to the late poker night, and the way-too-early trip to Cinci, when I got home, I crashed in my bed. Didn't wake up until late that evening. Totally forgot about a friend (and a guy I learned a lot about lighting from) coming into town and missed getting to see him.

Sunday I drove up to Mom's. Had dinner with her and my Uncles Ken and Ed, and my Aunt Ruth. After dinner we played dominos. I won for the first time! It was an empty victory, though.

Monday, Mom and I went to Circuit City. She bought a new TV. I hate her.

After we got home and setup the TV, we went and played something I had been itching to play for some time.

Disc (Frisbee) Golf. We played, well, actually, I played, and she walked and kept me company a course that's about 10 minutes away from mom's house. For only my second time playing I did okay. I didn't lose my disc. I scored 24 over par.

I went back Tuesday morning to play another round, mom had a dentist appointment so I went by myself. I came in only 5 over par on that round! (7 over on the front 9, 2 under on the back 9).

I learned a LOT about disc golf just by playing those two times. I'm better equipped now to figure out what type of discs to buy based on the way I throw and how different discs fly.

Picked up Stephanie and Chris at the airport on the way home from Mom's. We grabbed a pizza and watched Big Fish. It was awesome. A very moving and wonderful film. It will be a definite "buy" for me.

That's it... now go away, i'm tired... and where's my soup?

Right now, Stephanie and Chris are in Las Vegas at a Billy Joel concert. They are in the second row.

I hate them.

Delayed but Undaunted

First off, I want to thank everyone who has been there for me in ways of advice, support, and encouragement in my efforts to get my rear in gear and finish my degree (plus taking on the exciting challenge of a minor). [see posts "Motivation" and "Motivation Building"] Unfortunately, due to... well, my own ignorance and idoicy, I'm not able to attend EKU this summer as I had hoped. I ended up not being eligible for financial aide due to mistakes I made last time I attended.

Does this mean I'm giving up? No. I've already contacted EKU to switch my admission application for the Fall Semester.

What this does mean: I'll be working at Jenny Wiley Theatre again this summer. I'll only be there for half the summer this year, though. This will help me to accomplish a few things.
1. I'll be able to save money for school in the Fall.
B. I'll be able to save money to go to London, England for Stephanie's wedding.
next. I'll be able to GO to London (normal JW season wouldn't allow me to go).
IV. I'll be able to enjoy part of my summer with my close friends. (including my birthday!)
101000000. Job searching is always easier in the city you're wanting to work in.
lastly. I'll be able to concentrate on getting my act together for the fall semester.
This just in:
I'll be leaving for JWT on April 17th. I've been offered a part in a promo tour heading out before the actual season starts. I'll be performing my Master Electrician duties starting on the 8th of May. My last day is July 14th.

Last Hours of 24

WOW! I just finished watching the last disc to season 1 of 24. It was awesome! The whole season was great. My only critique is that it ended very ubruptly. There are so many plot twists that my emotions were tied up in pretzels every time I watched! I'd like to take a second to blame Stephanie for getting me hooked. Drat you, Stephanie!

That is all.

Uncle Scott Needs You

Okay, I picked up a $15 iTunes card at Wally World the other day... but I suddenly find myself not sure of what I want.

Your mission: suggest music. I'll check it out. If I like it, I'll buy it.

I'll post my selections... go... now!

Bragging

I was just sitting here looking at my calendar and looking forward to traveling to London in August, when I started thinking. Dangerous, I know.

I am so impressed and grateful for friends that it's just difficult to contain sometimes. This particular instance, I'm talking about Stephanie and Chris. As you know, weddings are a very special occasion, and you want to share it with everyone close to you. S&C have gone to such lengths as providing a place to stay for the people from the states going to London for the wedding. In order to have the people they care about near them, they're spending extra money in their wedding plans to accommodate us. Not only that, but they're actually delaying their honeymoon almost a week in order to spend time with their friends and family that are flying in (and staying for a couple extra days). How awesome are they?

These two (to me) represent love and selflessness. God will bless them to the ends of their days together.

Off a tangent: MapStats says that somebody found my site by searching for "coffee enemas". Weird.

LiveWire Tuesday

Dustin, Katie, and I went to LiveWire as usual. K "attended" her online class while she played Mille Bornes with D and I. D won. Afterwards we ate at Cracker Barrel. Their open-faced roast beef is to die for!

Bragged about my new Bluetooth Headset. Anxiously looking forward to phone calls.. more-so than usual.

Update: 04.05.06 @ 12:24am
Finally uploaded all the pieces to the new theme. Look around. I like this one a lot better. It feels more... "complete" to me. If you do nothing else the next time you read my blog... hover over the menu items. Do it. Seriously, I'll wait. ... Cool, huh?

Yuppie, Geek, or Cool

Maybe... All of the above?

I ordered this from buy.com about a week ago, and it just arrived in the mail. It's a Bluetooth headset for a mobile phone.

I just finished charging it and tested it out by listening to my voicemail. You can answer and end calls with the button on the device, plus you can use the voice-dial feature of your phone with the headset. For those numbers in your phonebook programmed with a voice-dial, you don't even have to take your phone out of your pocket (or backpack or purse) for those "frequently called" numbers. This device will also keep me more safe in the car.

Sweet!

Update:
I LOVE this thing. I just use the voice-dial feature twice in my car. It's so awesome!

30 boxes

Found a cool web-calendar yesterday called 30 boxes. It's really cool. For all you mac users, you can import and export your iCal files. This way, you'll have your calendar anywhere you could check your email. You can also share your calendar with friends and family. Pretty cool, yeah?

Update: you can add people as "buddies" and share your calendar with them if you like. Just look for them via their email address. Don't worry, you can share what you want if there are more "private" appointments you need to keep.

potpourri

This weekend was a good one. It even started early with the outdoor fun on Thursday. Friday evening was nice and relaxing. Saturday afternoon was more of the same, and Saturday evening was awesome.

More people than I've stuffed in my car in many years piled into my car and traveled to Danville. Steph, Chris, Dustin, Katie, and I went to Mike and Erin's to play poker and have a relaxing evening of fun. Since we weren't playing for money (bummer) it was "last-man-standing" type rules. Two people had never played poker before, and one of those (Chris) ended up winning the whole night. Stephanie took both Dustin and I out early in the game.

Good times + late night + time change = missed church. :(
