Another awesome day outside. Dustin, Katie, Quinn, and I spent some time out in the backyard today. I have some of those wiffle-ball-throwing scoops, and Dustin and I tossed around the wiffle ball and then threw some frisbee. Quinn played, too. Katie enjoyed the outdoors by sitting on the deck and bringing the laptop outside to work on it. Ahhh... Spring.
Now, Richmond, KY... get to work on that Frisbee Golf Course!

Do-over
A couple days ago I started another site redesign.
[pause for groans]
This design is okay, but it was really just a compromise with myself. So, I'm doing it again. It will have similarities to this one, and probably to other ones I've done. I learn with each design, and after I have a particular "trick" under control, I'll work on adding other ones, sometimes abandoning previous ones as not to muddy the water. Anyway. This, along with the beautiful weather, has the excitement bursting at the seams.

Beautiful Day
"Don't let it get away..."
What a gorgeous day outside today. FINALLY it feels like Spring. I REALLY wish there was a frisbee (disc) golf course in Richmond somewhere. I know there's one in Lexington, but I don't feel like driving that far to play. I'm really itching to get outside, though. It's awesome out!

Fun Web Stuff
I've got a couple things here to show off. You may know about it, you may not. Most of this stuff I've known about for a while... lost interest... then found it again.
Google Earth
This one's pretty cool. It's kind of like Google Maps but on steriods. It's basically satalite imagery of the whole Earth, and you can go to practically any point on the planet you want. If you zoom in on most places, the landscape gets blurry, but for most major cities, you can actually zoom in so far and see a car parked on the street. I've found Bub's house in Louisville, Stephanie & Chris' house in London, my Mom's house in Columbus, Crossroads Church, and a couple of other friend's houses in Lexington. Groovy.
Sudoku Online
Sudoku is a pretty cool logic game that's found it's way into the American Mainstream. When Steph was in London, she mentioned the name to me, and I looked it up, and started playing it. This link was introduced to me by Dustin and then I introduced it to Steph. Now I see people walking around with Sudoku puzzle books.
Sidewalk Art
I saw this one online many months ago, as well, but lost the link to it. Luckily Cousin Tommy found it, thought it was interesting and sent it on to me! I love these. It really takes the whole childhood drawing on the driveway with chalk to a whole new level.
Mobile 17
Formerly "Smash the Tones". I stumbled on this site and got a few of my friends hooked on it. Since I found it, the site has undergone a lot of work. It's very popular site. It allows you to take an mp3 file from your computer and turn it into a ringtone for your phone... FOR FREE!!! It will also allow you to upload pictures to your phone, too.

Full Weekend
I had a blast this weekend. It started Friday when my friend Ben called to remind me that he and the gang from IM were going to be in Williamsburg this weekend for an event. I jumped in the car and drove down to spend a few hours with the guys while they setup their gear and then during and a bit after the event. At one point in the night, Jeff was bothered a bit by something, and he and I went straight to the bible looking for answers. It was a pretty cool moment, I must say. It was awesome to see these guys again. They some of the most sincere, fun, real, and Godly people you might ever meet.
Saturday came way too early, since I got home REALLY late that morning... I got up had some breakfast and lunch and then headed to church. This weekend I was on the "roving stage cam"... and we've figured out better ways to do a few things since we first started using cameras for our services. I was all over the place, getting great shots. Some really cool artsy ones, too. One particular moment was at the end of the feature song, I was behind the vocal team with the camera on the floor. The lights were creating those "flare" effects on the lens and I pushed slowly into the back of the vocal team, slowly tilting the camera up, as I neared the end of my "push", the camera was pointing right in the lights, and I racked the camera out of focus just as the video director fades to black! It was incredible! That night I went to a friend's house for a "game night". It was a blast we played Taboo, Scene It!, and Mafia.
Again, Sunday Morning came too soon for me, and I headed for church. After church Dustin, Katie and I went to hang out with Stephanie for a while (she's such the invalid). We watched a couple movies and then after Dustin & Katie left, Steph and I watched disc 5 of 24: season 3. I came home earlier than I normally do... and crashed early (and hard).
This was an awesome weekend. I wasn't expecting such a full weekend as it was approaching, and now that it's Monday... it feels like it flew by way too fast.

Appreciation - part II
This is something that struck me hard on the way home from Steph's tonight. It's a combination of things. It's different things for different people. You can have an appreciation for music or art. You can appreciate that someone has gone through a lot of work to get something done. Then there is a personal appreciation. I have a lot of appreciation for many people. Here's a few...
My mother. She has raised me really well, put up with a lot of crap from me and loved me the whole time. She's taught me a lot. She's encouraged me and supported me in every choice I made (even the bad ones) teaching me when needed, and allowing me to learn life's lessons the hard way when appropriate.
Stephanie. She's one of my best friends. She has been supportive and encouraging as long as I've known her. She has so much grace and love to give. She's given me a lot of great advice over the years. She's one of the most amazing people I know. She helped me get on track with my Christian journey, and is one of the most fun people I know. You know when someone cares about you a lot, because they get mad at you for settling for less. And as for Chris... who is an amazing person. He takes Stephanie as she is, and all that the package includes, and loves her friends and just seems to fit in with everyone... and of course since we hold Steph's opinion in high regard, we wanted to love him, too... and we do!
Dustin & Katie. Dustin is my other best friend. We've known each other over half our lives! We laughed (a lot). In an uspoken kind of way, we both know we're there for each other. And the both of them are so awesome to help me out when I really need it, by offering me a place to live, so I can get my feet back under me and finish school.
Ben. Another of my greatest friends. Whether he knows it or not, he leads by example... and he leads well. After knowing him, I know that you don't have to be a stiff to be a Christian... you can be real, you can be fun, you can be vulnerable.
Mike & Erin. Both of these people have always been very encouraging to me. Mike has always had good things to say about me and to me. A pretty insightful guy. Another one of the kinds of friends that get mad when you get down on yourself.
Patrick. Although we aren't really close friends, he, too, has always had some pretty good advice when it counted. And he's a genuine type of guy behind the jokes and sarcasm. The kind who notices that something might be troubling you, and asks about it... not because it's the "right thing", but because he cares.
Then there are so many more people from my church that are so genuine and caring, it's almost unbelievable. Matt, Janene, Lisa, Jennifer R., Greg, Adam, Mary, Jennifer T., William, and Mary Beth just to name a few - and those are just the ones I come in contact with on a more regular basis... there are many more.
I appreciate all these people (and more) for everything they do for me and for others. "Thank You" doesn't do it justice... and this post won't come close to describing to you the admiration, love, and respect I have for these people.

Snowball
It's kind of fascinating to me about how much I get motivated at one time.
When I start the ball rolling on things, I want to get other balls rolling, too. For instance, as of today, I've applied for financial aid and submitted my application for readmission to EKU. After that, I cleaned up my room. Next, I started getting quotes for Auto Insurance. I've discovered that I could save almost $300 by switching to just about ANY auto insurance provider.
How awesome is that?!

Advanced desktop publishing course in the design, creation, and assembling of text and graphical images. In depth of study of color theory, color management and color separation.
TEC313 - Digital Photography
A study of current technology used to digitize traditional photographic images for use in computer application programs. This includes the acquisition of images from scanners, digital cameras and optical discs.
TEC255 - Web Publishing
A study of preparing content for the World Wide Web that includes the use of professional level software.

Louisville Trip III - Shopping
As you may or may not know, there are a couple of really big malls in Louisville. We hit 'em both. Now, in the current financial state I'm in, I don't do a lot of frivolous shopping. But there were a few things I found that I really wanted. They weren't expensive things and I just got my federal refund, so I spent a few bucks on some things I liked.
I bought two card games at a store called, "Something To Do". The first card game is called "Mille Bourne". I used to have a computer game like it, and when I saw this, I just had to get it. The second card game is called "PIT", and it was introduced to me during a Card Night event a while back by Rose. It's not a quiet game at all. The object is to get all 9 cards of the "same suit", to do that, you have to trade cards, kind of like you're in the stock market. It's a blast.
The third thing I bought was a frisbee. Not an ordinary frisbee but a disc golf frisbee. I've played disc golf a couple of times and enjoyed myself... figured ten bucks was work getting my own disc. There's a couple of courses to play around Lexington, so that will be awesome.
And a little freebee I got, thanks to an out-of-stock Pink Motorola RAZR phone, was a Motorola V551. The Short VersionJamie wanted a pink RAZR, the store didn't have one. She bought a black RAZR. Later... the store had a pink RAZR, so she bought a pink one, Kelly took the black one... and now I have his old phone (which is still WAY newer than mine, and in much better condition).
This concludes the "Louisville Trip" series. Hope you enjoyed reading.

700th Post!!!
By the way, the previous post was my 700th! Wow. This is actually the 701st post.
A Brief History
I've been dabbling in creating webpages since '98 or '99. During that time I worked on a personal webpage with all kinds of theatre stuff, plus an archive of shows that Somerset Community College had done.
After 2000, when I came to EKU, I worked on the same thing for EKU shows. I attempted creating an Alpha Psi Omega page (the Theatre Honorary Fraternity) to list all the members, by-laws, and that sort.
The blogging bug bit me in October 2003 after reading Stephanie's and Patrick's. I started blogging like a fiend.
In November of 2004, I bought the domain name "skipthehero.com" and a webhost package. I used skills that I had picked up to create a custom template for my blog, and began working on a complete site. The site would be a journal, an online resume, and a portfolio.
Now, after three (and a half) designs later, a few more tricks up my sleeve, and over 700 posts, I don't feel any signs of stopping. In fact, it's more ingrained in my blood than I once realized. I'm going to take on a minor in Computer Electronic Publishing.

Louisville Trip II - Entertainment
Part II of my Louisville trip looks at what Bub and I did for fun.
Bub and I are avid Xbox gamers. Unfortunately, his Xbox was on the fritz... fortunately, mine wasn't. :)
The Games
One of the things we did a lot of this weekend (aside from enjoying each other's company) was blow the ever-living crap out of some bad guys! The favorite game of the weekend was Star Wars: Battlefront. It's a pretty cool game. It lets you be a part of most of the "historic" battles of all of the Star Wars movies, and you can choose which side to be, good or bad. The main objective is to either control all the "command posts" on the map, or totally eliminate every last soldier the opponent has. The other games didn't get much play time. He let me borrow a few games, though that I'm looking forward to playing...
* X-Men Legends
* Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
* Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
* Midway Arcade Treasuers - this one has a bunch of "old school" games on it.
The Movies
We watched a couple of movies while I was there, as well.
* Howl's Walking Castle - Anime. Have you ever fallen asleep during a movie and woken up about 5 minutes later, but been so lost that it was tough to understand what was going on in the movie? Yeah, this movie is kind of like that - except you don't fall asleep.
* A History of Violence - this one stars that guy from Lord of the Rings (Viggo... something). It was a "good" movie. Very dark. This may be a "watch only once or twice" kind of movie. Maybe I need to see it again to appreciate it.
Stay tuned for more...

Louisville Trip - Food
I just got back from a trip to visit my "Big Brother" Kelly (and his wife Jamie) for the weekend. I had a blast (as I always do) with him. It was really great to see them both again. Here's a run-down of the weekend...
Well, one thing that always happens during my trips to Louisville to see Bub (Bubba is his nickname) is that we eat... well, good, and a lot! My stomach hasn't been that full for that long in a while. :)
* Thursday - Chinese for dinner
* Friday - breakfast and lunch were simple; for dinner we ate at a place called "McAlister's Deli"... I had a sandwich called "The Big Nasty". It was basically an open-faced roast beef sandwhich, but better, and it was huge!
* Saturday - We woke up early and stuffed ourselves at Waffle House. We didn't really eat lunch because we were still so full from breakfast. For dinner we grabbed some steak, potatoes and salad from this really awesome grocery store there. We took that back and grilled out Saturday night.
* Sunday - a very lazy day. I had some pop-tarts for breakfast, and we ate pizza rolls for lunch (while watching UK get beat by UCONN).
I'm not sure ... but I think I'm still full.

Motivation
When motivation comes along you gotta ride the wave hard and fast before it falters. After an awesome conversation last night, and a brainstorming effort a couple days ago, I have a fire lit that I'm ready to stoke.
I'm finally excited about finishing college.
I got online this morning and looked up all the classes I need to graduate and had finished my list when a little bird whispered in my ear. The whisper was telling me to explore a minor. A minor in Computer Electronic Publishing. The best thing about this is that after I laid out the ground-work, I came to the conclusion that it would only take one extra semester to finish it. This would finally finish my degree in Theatre, AND give me an extra skills set to use on the side (or if it would become very lucritive, as a main income). Basically the C.E.P. minor would have me working with Digital Media and eventually with Web Design... something I'm already pseudo-familiar with.
Anyway, for the first time in a year and a half, I'm excited about finishing school.
The End is in sight, and I'm pressing on!

Rewind
Okay, so a lot has happened in the past few days that I haven't had the time to post about... so here it is now in most of it's glory.
Saturday and Sunday
This weekend at church, the two big-wigs of our production team were on vacation. I was dropped in one of the slots for the weekend (Technical Director) as well as performing my usual volunteer duties of setting up and running the lights for the services. Needless to say, I was pretty nervous about the whole thing. I didn't sleep very well Friday night. The setup went pretty smoothly, in fact we were done about an hour early, so the video guys switched on the UK basketball game to the 3 huge widescreen video screens we have in the main room. Saturday night's service went really smoothly, too. No hiccups or incidents to speak of.
Sunday morning went just as well as Saturday night, and the transition to Reverb went off without a hitch. Patrick spoke at Reverb this weekend in place of Fred Turner (who was on vacation). I was very impressed. I had seen him do a monologue, or heard his writing before, but never deliver the teaching message. He did a great job. Sunday afternoon I went home and took a nap for about 4 hours. I don't usually take naps, so this is a testament to the stress level I was feeling, plus the lack of sleep.
Saturday night
I went with Stephanie and Jennifer to see Failure to Launch with Matthew Maconehey (sp?) and Sarah Jessica Parker. It was really funny, I'd say a good date movie or a good rental. I'd give it the rating of a "possible buy".
Monday and Tuesday
I spent most of Monday at St. Joseph's hospital keeping Stephanie's mom company during Steph's surgery. The surgery only took an hour, and the doctor said that things really couldn't have gone any better. They removed three tumors with no problems. The tumors were on the outside of her uterus, and the doctor said there should be no problem with her carrying or giving birth naturally. Stephanie had so many people there that cared for her. Tuesday, I went back to the hospital to visit Steph while she was a bit more lucid. The previous day, she was basically drunk off the medicine, proving incoming phone calls to be quite humorous from an onlooker's viewpoint. She was doing really well on Tuesday, and many people came to visit her or called while she was there, proving how much and how many people care for her.
Today, Wednesday - Stephanie is on her way home from the hospital!

Just So You Know
Contrary to popular belief.
- I don't like being without a job.
- I don't like being a burden.
- I AM searching for a job.
Unless I ask for your help or opinion, the following are the only acceptable things to say to me in refernce to jobs.
- Have you found anything?
- I'll keep an ear/eye out for you.
- I know someone/someplace that's hiring.
- Keep looking, you'll find something.
All remarks that could/would potentially make me feel 1" tall are unwelcome. I have a pretty thin skin on this one... don't joke about it. If your comment isn't meant to help me, I don't want to hear it. I don't need anyone tearing me down when I feel bad enough as it is.
By the way - comments for this post have been disabled.
Thank you, that is all.

New Look
...same great flavor.
Okay. Here's a brighter more "scott-like" theme. It's only updated on the blog potion so far... it's easy to update all the other parts of the site, I just don't feel like it right now. It has the same basic idea behind it... just "peppier".
Let me know what you kids think.

Good News
For those of you who know and love (or just sorta like) Stephanie, read on... the rest of you - avert your eyes... or something.
If you read Steph's blog at all, then you know that she recently discovered she had two tumors on the outside of her uterus [see post].
Well she had surgery this afternoon to remove them (and in the process they discovered a third and removed that sucker, too). The big worry was that her uterus would be damaged during the surgery and she'd have to have a hysterectomy (did i spell that right?) and wouldn't be able to have kids. :(
Good News! I actually just got home from the hospital about 45 minutes ago. The surgery today went very well, and Stephanie is resting. She's going to be able to have normal natural childbirth when the time comes! Yay!
Want more info? Click on BIO then CONTACT in the menu and I'll answer any questions I know the answers to.
Thanks to all of you that kept her in your prayers... they helped tremendously!
God Bless.

T.J. Hooker? Captain Kirk?
I must admit, a couple of my guilty pleasures are The Discovery Channel, and the History Channel. Except for prime-time, my T.V. practically stays on these two channels. A couple of my favorite programs are Modern Marvels, Extreme Engineering, Mail Call, Mythbusters, and anything that shows off technology of any kind.
The past week on the History Channel, there have been ads for a special called, "How William Shatner Changed the World". The commercial has good ol' Shatner driving in a convertable spouting off words like "iPod, Blog, and Google"... and then he takes credit for them.
I must admit that I am quite intrigued at the notion of this. If nothing else, it should be good for a laugh or two.
The program airs Sunday @ 8:00pm on the History Channel.

I Like to Ride My Bicycle
I like to ride it where I like...
Today I got out and got some exercise. It's the start of part two of creating a better me.
The first part was working on the ol' spiritual health. A few weeks ago I started a daily devotion (still going, just not blogging about it as much). And a few days ago, I decided to work on my physical health bit of the string. I've noticed when these two parts of me are going strong, the third generally falls into place out of fear of being picked on by the other two.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I went to the storage building today to grab a few things... one of them being my Mongoose Mountain bike that I bought a couple years ago to ride around on campus from class to class. I put my bike rack on the car, loaded up the bike, and headed back to the house.
Back at the ranch, I cleaned the bike up a bit, put air in the tires, checked the brakes, checked the gears and the shifters and decided to ride around the block. It felt really good.
Flashback:
I remember riding my bike all over the place when I was growing up. I got my first bike at age 6 for my birthday. I remember that training wheels always seemed to mess me up, I tried to lean with the turns and the stupid things would pick my back tire off the ground and then I'd crash. I remember after getting the training wheels off that I could stay up, but wasn't really good at stopping. Thank goodness there were plenty of trees in my front yard to help me out. I've only owned two bikes in my life... the current one being my second. I took really good care of that first one. I rode it right up until I was 16 and could drive a car (plus a little even then).

Eat Something, Will Ya'?
I know that this is one of those problems that people are going to be like, "What? Puh-leese. I wish I had that problem."
I'm right on the cusp of being underweight. [pause for gasps] I'm needing to gain some weight... right now, I weight approximately 115lbs. [pause for laughs] And I would like to be around 120 - 125.
I realized that I don't really eat enough. I'm wanting to do this thing healthy though, so I'm not planning on gorging on cake and sweets and that sort. I'm working on getting my caloric intake up to 2500/day. For me, that basically means 5 meals a day.
Here's a request. Anyone with any sort of advice about what to eat, what to avoid, good websites to visit, or any other sort of resource, feel free to comment or to contact me.

Ultraviolet
THE FOLLOWING PREVIEW HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR
ALL AUDIENCES
I went to see Ultraviolet on Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed the film. Here's the highlights:
+ Visually awesome. Excellent use of colors and cinematography.
+ A lot of great action and visual effects.
- Story holes. Plot issues. Lots of, "Huh?"
Overall - I enjoyed the movie.. but it's definitely a "one-time" in the theatre kind of film, as well as a "rent it if you get the chance".

Spoiled? What?
Hey, I like those net quizzes and surveys as much as the next person, and I like them even better when they're not littering my inbox or telling me that if I don't send it to 30 people within the next 5 minutes, a genie won't come and grant me my life-long wish, or Mickey Mouse won't do a dance on my desktop. I like them a little more thanks to blogging and MySpace, especially because people post them to their blogs more and don't clutter up the email with them. Like I said, I like them every once in a while, but some of the answers on this quiz don't make any sense.
This survey gave a list of answers and you make an "X" next to them if they applied to you, and if you have a score of more than 40 or so, you are considered to be "Spoiled". For instance a few things that can add up to you being spoiled are the following:
- good grades? (how 'bout that means you're a good student?)
- a boyfriend/girlfriend (only if they SPOIL you)
- some type of trophy/award (can't this mean good in athletics?)
- myspace (dude, myspace is free goto the public library and hop on)
- alarm clock (the ability to be at a given place on time.. Especially if it's early in the morning is not being spoiled, it's being responsible)
- AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ (all these IM's are free)
- toothbrush (wow, I didn't realize brushing my teeth to prevent tooth decay counted as "spoiling myself")
- x's in your screename (don't get this one at all)
- a birthday in September (uhm... what?)
- a relative that lives in a different state (how does my cousin living in Ohio make me spoiled?)
- a friend who does alcohol/drugs/smokes (don't get how my friends categorize me as spoiled, if they can afford the beer and pot, then they're the ones who are privileged)
- bad grades (so if you make grades at school at all, you're spoiled)
- a locker at school (at the schools I went to [all public] every kid was provided a locker... no one was better than any other.)
- a baby (the person making this survey has clue what they're talking about)
- a nice singing voice (one of God's gifts makes you spoiled?)
- some type of disease (WHAT?!)
- wife beaters (these are like the cheapest shirts!)
- a mom or a dad (WHAT!?!!!? EVERYONE has one of these [at least at one point in their lives)
- siblings (Puhlease - the majority of people who are spoiled are because they're an only child)
- friends who u love (ridiculous)

Oh Happy Day!
Today, at 3:47pm, the grass just got a little greener, the sky a little blue-er, the breeze a little warmer, and the sun a little brighter.
I just received my state tax refund.
Some stress relieved for the time-being. Whew.

Bummer
Back to the drawing board, i suppose.
Addendum:
Fortunately - The way I created the template this time will leave it easier to redesign the site in the future.
Unfortunately - As I was very excited to have this design completed, but not "received" as well as I had hoped, I'm not very motivated to try anything right now.

Launch!
The new theme is finally here!! (yay!)
I need your help.
Play around on the site, tell me if anything isn't working, or if a particular thing looks really weird. Basically try to "break" the site.. test it out.
The only thing that isn't at full strength yet is the "gallery". It's basically customized, but I'm still tweaking it.
Roam around, try things out, and tell me what you think. The contact me and let me know what you think. What's wrong? What's good? Of course comments on this post are welcomed and encouraged, as always.
Thanks,
spg
